Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU) is situated in Patiala. The key aims detailed in the preamble of the university act comprise:

- Serving as the exclusive authority entitled to affiliate and oversee any sports or physical education institution within the state, along with associated matters.

The university was officially recognized by the UGC in accordance with Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act of 1956 on September 9, 2019. At present, the university's office is located in Mohindra Kothi near Fountain Chowk in Patiala.

* Establishment: Officially recognized under Punjab Act No. 11 of 2019 in August 2019; attained UGC accreditation as per Section 2(F) on September 9, 2019.

* Campus: a permanent campus is currently under development in Sidhowal village, Patiala (Patiala-Bhadson Road) with an estimated investment of around 500 crores across 92-97 acres.
