GNM is a popular diploma course for individuals aspiring to become nurses.
1. About GNM?
Full Form: General Nursing and Midwifery
Course Level: Diploma course
Duration: Typically 3 years, followed by a 6-month mandatory internship (total 3.5 years).
Focus: Practical training in various aspects of nursing care, including general healthcare, midwifery, community health, rehabilitation, mental health, and post-trauma care.
2. GNM Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
Passed Class 12 (10+2) from a recognized board.
Minimum Marks: Generally a minimum of 40% to 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination. Some institutions may have specific requirements.
Subjects: English is a compulsory subject. While Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) is often preferred, candidates from Arts and Commerce streams are also eligible in many states and institutions.
Candidates who have passed Class 12 with English and a vocational ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) course recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) or Vocational Stream-Healthcare Science from a recognized CBSE board are also eligible.
Registered ANMs with qualifying marks can also apply.
Age Limit:
Minimum Age: 17 years as of December 31st of the admission year.
Maximum Age: 35 years. (There might be relaxations for certain categories or for Registered ANMs/LHVs).
Medical Fitness: Candidates must be medically fit.
3. GNM Admission Process:
Entrance Exams:
Most GNM admissions are based on state-level entrance exams conducted by the respective State Nursing Councils or health departments.
Some universities or private colleges may conduct their own entrance exams.
Examples of state-level exams include MP Nursing Entrance Exam, UP Nursing Entrance Exam, Delhi CET, Maharashtra Nursing Entrance Exam, Assam GNM Entrance Exam, etc.
Merit-Based Admission: In some cases, especially in government nursing schools or certain states (e.g., Tamil Nadu, Karnataka), admissions might be based solely on the merit of Class 12 board exam marks.
Application Process:

Rajasthan GNM Admission 2025 applications are tentatively expected in October-December 2025.
5. GNM Course Fees:
The fees for GNM vary significantly between government and private colleges.
Generally, it can range from INR 11,000 to INR 7.6 Lakh for the entire course.
Government colleges usually have much lower fees compared to private institutions.

GNM graduates have various job opportunities in the healthcare sector.
